Who are We? eXtension Alliance for Better Child Care Community of Practice

The Who are We? blog post series will showcase each of the five Communities of Practice within the Child and Family Learning Network.

Did you know that over two-thirds of children under 6 are in some type of formal child care? That means that nearly 33 million children are cared for by someone other than a relative. With so many young children in child care, it is critical that they receive the best care possible.

The eXtension Alliance for Better Child Care is a network of early childhood professionals from leading universities who are dedicated to improving the quality of child care and early childhood education for all children. Our vision is to ensure that all young children receive high-quality, developmentally appropriate early care and education experiences to provide a foundation for success in school, work, and social relationships.

Our mission is to actively engage and educate child care providers, parents, and community leaders through high quality, web-based early childhood resources and learning experiences.

  •  We have resources that professionals can use in their programs, including searchable databases for classroom activities, songs and fingerplays, and story stretchers for a number of popular children’s books.
  • We offer research-based articles on topics that providers want to know about. Providers can find information on topics ranging from early learning and development to health and safety.
  • We provide professional development opportunities through regular webinars and online modules.
